Death City had recuperated quickly from the horrors unleashed on the night of the anniversary of the Shinigami Meister Weapon University. That is, except for one suburb. Construction site workers swarmed around crushed buildings and the massive hole which not only Asura, but Shinigami and others had burst from. However, at the corner of Die Street and Now Avenue, a certain pallor hung from the eaves. Both streets had used to be urban centres for pasta, greengrocers and a rather successful fish stall. However, an unintentional attack had removed their stock, and their shopfronts. For the past week a string of disappearances had been linked to the area, but many had simply assumed people had moved on to nicer suburbs, or fled in case the Kishin returns. However, the findings of last night had changed all of that. A young lad of no more than 16 had been found, his blue soul shining softly in the early dawn light with the legs of chair embedded several feet into his shoulder and chest. He’d clearly been dead for some time, but at once Shibusen had launched an urgent mission to investigate if the killing had been Kishin-Egg related, and why the soul had not been consumed. At noon, several old ladies and a single, senile old man stood in a semi-circle waited for the promised Shibusen investigators. They all wore hankies or large, floppy hats and had varying levels of stoops, with one lady almost bent at ninety degrees. One tightly gripped the corner of a shawl and wore a worried expression. Each of them walked the streets late at night for their own reasons, and hardly wanted to end up the way the boy had. |

Shugorei had gotten a message from Shinigami just ten minutes ago. The only mirror was in his toliet, actually just above said facility. He was briefed while releiving himself from a long night sleep, though he didn't give the impression of what he was doing while talking to Shinigami. Afterwards, he walked across the hallway, dressed in his school uniform. This was going to be thier first mission together and it seemed like a doozy. While walking to the sceane, he told Amie what he was told and his own personal hypothesis. Including that it might be the Kishin himself altering the minds of others to cause drama, confusion, and madness. Shugorei had restocked his quiver with breakfast bars, canned tea, cans of soda, and cans of coffee. Amie was about the only one allowed in their. He kept an assortment of supplies and snacks in there, just so he could learn more about his partner. As they approached he noticed the group of seniors there. They seeemed to witness somethings. Guess it was time for statements. He handed a compact mirror to Amie. "Just in case we need to contact Shinigami-sama with news." Walking over to the lone man, he offered a small smile and bow. "Konbanwa. What happened here?" |

Amie had been woken up by Shugo really early in the morning. She was still too tired to really register much, all she hear was something about missing weapons and going somewhere for Shinigami. On the way there, Shugo told her abut his hypothosis on what happened. Needing to wake up, Amie reached into Shugo's quiver, not asking for permission, and pulled out a can of soda. She opened the tab and started guzzling it down. Ah, sugar. As they walked into the site, Amie felt a chill, go down her spine..this place wasn't nice, no one was happy here. She was shaken out of her thoughts as Shugo gave her a compact mirror. To contact Shinigami-sama. Okay. She let Shugo talk to the elderly people as she looked around at the area. She couldn't shake weird feeling somethin bad was happening, but she just clenched onto Melon tighter and drank more soda. |

The old man looked up from the ground. A large mole between his nose and upper lip tended to draw the eye, while his eyes in turn swivelled to the logo on Shugorei’s blazer. ”Pickles.” “Pickles. Pickle-pickles.” A closer examination revealed his eyes alive and sharp with intelligence, but beyond that his food-stained shirt and limited vocabulary would lead one to believe he had had a particularly bad seizure, or perhaps Alsiemers. He smiled blithely and walked away, clearly feeling he had said what he intended to. An elderly woman with dyed, copper hair stepped forward. Her hankie had a floral pattern, and clearly revealed a mess of hair that spewed forth like a waterfall captured in time down to mid-back. She smiled kindly, but a certain tightness in her jaw said all was not as well as she liked to believe. Putting her hands behind her back and leaning forward, she began her evidently well-rehearsed speech. “Ah. You must be the children from the school up there. We’ve been wondering how long it’d take for you to come down here since people started vanishing. We ladies are I guess the leaders of these streets, so we noticed almost straight away that there weren’t so many… it’s been going for about 5 days you see.” “I suppose you want to look about, find suspects, raid houses and that sort of thing? Would you mind if Clarise here tags along? She’s just such a fan of murder-mystery…” |

<Pickles?> Shugorei took note that the senile old man may not have been as senial as one might think. When the woman came up to him, he removed a notepad from his pocket and flipped it open. He twirled a pen in his right hand from his pocket as he smiled back to her. Noticing the tight jaw lines, he bowed his head again. "That may not be nessecary Ma'am. Did anyone witness these murders?" As he listened in to the woman and asked, he looked around at the rest of the scene. The soul was still hovering over the boy's body. "Amie could you please inspect the body and instruments, see if anything was left behind and check the soul. Let me know if anything is off about it." |

"Huh? Oh, yeah, sure," Amie said as she came back to attention. Inspect the body? What exactly was she supposed to do? She walked over to the poor boy's body and knelt down by him. Three chair legs had been rammed into his shoulders and chest. So whoever did it must've been able to get close. Poking at the blue soul, it gave way but retained it's original shape. It seemed to be a normal soul, pale blue in color, not even a hint of red. Okay, so what made this crime different from others? Amie scanned his body with her eyes, looking up and down. A hole in the boy's shirt caught her eye, carefully lifting it up, she saw a entry wound of some sort, most likely a bullet... Wierd... |

"That may not be necessary Ma'am. Did anyone witness these murders?" In short, sharp shakes she clearly elicited that no-one had seen the murders. ”I really wish we did, you know? Clarise has tried her best to stay up every night in her house, but whether she falls asleep, or the people are taken elsewhere in the street we just don’t know… Cups of tea can only keep you awake for so long, you know.” Clarise, an elderly wearing a floppy hat with a feather in it, nodded sheepishly. In her hands was a flip-top notebook with a biro* sticking through the rings that kept the pages bound. Opening it and flipping through the pages, Clarise glanced at Shugorei once, before ducking her head and inching across to the leader. She whispered something into her ear, before tentatively grinning at the school boy once again. Smiling a little, the handkerchief wearing woman nodded. ”Clarise here says she did her an odd noise a few of the nights. Nothing consistent, just a loud noise every night that someone would go. I’m not sure if that’ll help you any though I’m afraid.” Over at the body, it was clear what the cause of death was. While two of the legs had impaled the relatively harmless areas of upper-belly, each of the upper legs seemed to have punctured either lung or heart, possibly both. He had been dead for some time, with rigor mortis keeping his limbs stiff, and his head kept at an angle. His eyes stared down and seemed to have a fixed stare to his shoulder. In the fleshy area between chest and armpit, a small puncture wound was clear. Still jutting out from a small, distorted golden ring sat, but was mostly hidden under skin and dried blood. If it was removed from the corpse, it would no longer be cylindrical, but rather resemble a capital D, as if flattened somehow. Clarise appeared next to Amie, and slowly bent down to her height. ”Have you tried to roll him over?” Seeing the answer in the child’s eyes, with her four-legged walking aid she shunted the corpse over, so that it rested on its side, with the base and back of the chair keeping the young man from tipping onto his stomach. The back of his arms had a distinctly bluish tinge, which caused her eyes to gleam in triumph. She poked it with a leg of her walking aid, and noted it turned blue, before returning to the unnatural blue colour. ”Hm. So he’s been dead for about five to eight hours now… What does that mean his time of death was?” She posed, alternating her looks between the young, healthy school-boy and the girl.

Shugorei closed his notepad and slid it back in his pocket before turning to Amie. Noticing the mystery lover had gone over to assist her he stayed back and watched for a moment. He did get a bit of info from this bit of talk. The person they were dealing with was obviously very smart. However a loud noise suggested that their might be a way of locating the individual. It was entirely possible that this loud noise was how he was dispatching of his victums. Why else would it even be made with him being as covert as described. If it was a weapon he was using the sound would give him an area to search. However what concerned him at the moment was the fact that he had been dead 5 to eight hours and the soul was still there. Normally the soul would have continued on or been eaten. But this one was still in place. He may have to contact Shinigami-sama about this one. |

Five to eight hours, hmm... "Since it's noonish right now, he died between the hours of 4 am to 7 am," Amie stated as she rolled the boy back over. Following the dead boy's sightless gaze to a small puncture wound, Amie saw something glint in the sunlight, grabbing it, she saw it was a small gold ring, that had been smooshed, so now it looked like a "D". She placed a finger on one of the upper legs and followed it down until she reached the boy's chest and did the same with the second leg. Amie then stood up and put her hands on Shugo, in the same spots, turning to Clarice she nodded, cofirming something to herself. "Though clearly the chair is the cause of death, none of the legs punctured his heart, instead his lungs were punctured. So the poor boy suffocated to death...what's wierd is, why is the soul still here. If a corrupted soul did this, wouldn't they have taken it?" Amie turned to Shugo, clutching onto Melon. She was definitely confused. |

Clarise coughed delicately, and when she had their attention, shuffled slightly forward. "I'm no detective... and I don't really understand about "corrupted souls"... is that another word for murderer? Or is it a special type of murderer...? Anyway, I guess I'm gettin off topic." She shook head head, and leant down for a few moments, trying to collect her thoughts. A soft snore sounded, and then another. Just as quickly as she had fallen asleep, she jerked back up. "Oh yes, yes. That ring was interesting, isn't it? In 'Clueso' on TV he'd always find a trinket, or dental records or something and trace it back..." She paused again, and appeared ready to fall asleep again. "That soul thing... Is it wierd? When my husband died his soul stayed with me for a few days and kept me company... Eased the pain..." Finally, she nodded off. Whether from old age or trying to stay awake non-stop for 4 days, Clarise was asleep and this time, she seemed to stay that way. The leader of the old ladies smiled kindly first at the standing, sleeping form of Clarise and then at the Shibusen students. "She tries so hard you know... Three husbands, all detectives, all buried." "So what do you kids want to do?" The question struck the impromtu detective deep. There were a number of options ahead; there was the ring in the corpse, the streets, the histories of the victim(s) or whatever other inspiration struck. But, with a limited number of people, who knew how much they could do before night-time, and the possibility of another soul being taken?
