Ruben waited anxiously outside the door, three pens and a pair of pencils jutting from a pocket. Wringing his hands back and forth he worried over the test, How will I go? I didn't even know there was one until last night... No study for it, but I should be all right, right? I mean.... no wait, I haven't even been keeping up with my notes... Surely it won't be that bad, right? Come on.... He eyed the door of the examination room, hoping the oddly two dimension principle of Shibusen would burst through and reveal the test as merely a joke, but regardless of the will Roo exerted, Shinigami never appeared. At the hour, the door creaked open, and was at once aflood with eager, fearful and anxious students. The smell of sweat was overpowering as Ruben was swept into the room, and up three tiers before he managed to wriggle out and land in a heap on a chair. Moving across another chair, the small, rectangular pile of papers sat before him. Gulping down his fears, Ruben went to flip it over and start before he remembered the correct decorum, and flinched his hands away. Looking towards the inevitable director the test guiltily, Ruben flinched once more, The Chuckler... The large, gloved hands began once again their incessant wringing, broken only by fidgeting with pens, helm or shoe-laces. Eventually however, the Chuckler broke the strained silence and begun her long winded talk. The meister ignored it, intent as he was on desperately trying to remember everything, or heck, anything, he'd been taught. Odd facts like the rare pygmi hippo of Europe had two hearts, and that the blood of the Moscovian lizard was green came to mind, but he doubted Stein's probably-not-legal dissections likely wouldn't be tested. The sound of rustling paper swept across the room, and already lagging behind, Ruben flipped his over too. A single sheet of paper listed his questions, and would decide his future. Looking over them, Ruben didn't feel so bad, though he knew first impressions were often wrong. Taking a pen in hand, and another in his mouth, he began to muse over the first. Soul Resonance.... If I was a Soul Resonance what would I be.... Maybe I should draw it ou- no no... Ooh! A golem whose coding could allow for Soul wavelength recognition could be possible, I'd just have to- no no! Focus! Okay. Soul Resonance is...! Still pondering over the first question, Ruben jumped a few inches out of his chair, losing his mouth pen in the process as a loud, purple haired girl shouted out, before dashing from the room. Returning to his work, Ruben realised he must be falling behind. Trying to focus once again, he managed to churn out an answer. 1. What is soul resonance? [5 Marks] SOUL RESONANCE IS WHEN 2 OBJECTS OR INDIVIDUALS SYNCHRONISE AND DO SOMETHING COOL. It wouldn't be in the Oxford Dictionary, put it'd probably do. Looking onto the next question, Ruben was stumped. He'd never even met a witch- probably. Lacking the grounding in Shibusen history, and also personal experience, the boy from Loew village took a stab in the dark, and attempted an answer. 2. What is the distinction between a witches soul and a normal corrupted soul? (please reply with a minimum of two sentences, one describing the witches soul, and another for the corrupted soul) [10 Marks] A WITCHES SOUL IS LARGER, AND NOT TAINTED BY INSTANITY NOR CORRUPTION; IF SOULS WERE CHOCOLATES A NORMAL SOUL WOULD BE MILK CHOCOLATE AND A CORRUPTED SOUL WOULD BE DARK CHOCOLATE. THEN A WITCH SOUL WOULD BE MINT FLAVOURED CHOCOLATE. It was probably too long, but such a difficult concept required more letters, he felt. Feeling that he was on a roll, Ruben eagerly read the next question. Weapons? That should be easy! 3. What are the limitations on weapon transformations? [5 Marks] WEAPONS HAVE NO REAL LIMITATIONS EXCEPT THAT THEY CANNOT FORM Lifting the page slightly to examine it better, Ruben's jaw fell. Through his slow, blocky writing slits of sunlight could be seen. His pen had occasionally scratched through the paper, and into the desk below. The occasional diagonal, horizontal or vertical line could be seen neatly scratched into the graffitied and stained benched, but likely only to those who obsessively knew the designs of the tables already. Guility returning the page to the table to cover his mistakes, Ruben tried to busy himself with the fourth question. At once he was stumped. Realising studying really could have helped, Ruben leant back and stared into middle space, trying to come up with an answer vaguely plausible. Eventually though, he decided, and this times tried to only lightly write on the page. 4. How is a chaos god formed? (please include one sentence for traditional and one sentence for modern techniques) [10 marks] THE CHAOS GOD CAN BE FORMED FROM VOLUNTARY OR FORCED EATING OF INNOCENT AND PRESUMABLY WITCH SOULS. LOTS OF INSANITY CAN'T BE GOOD EITHER. Feeling rather good now about his progress, Ruben granted himself a 5 minutes reprieve before the essay, and began to doodle pictures in the corner of the pages. |

Noting the time, Ruben finished his mental break and tried to buckle down for the final time. The essay seemed simple enough for someone who'd been at Shibusen for a long time, but for "new" student Ruben, this was hardly his ideal question. Reading the question again and again in hopes of it suddenly changing, one word repeatedly jumped out at him- witch. Everyone at Shibusen knew atleast one witch- what she had done had been broadcasted repeatedly after the dramatical events of the rebirth of Asura, and surely anytime was historical? Setting pen to paper, he wrote, Essay [20 Marks]: Please write a short essay on a historical Technician, Death Scythe, or Witch. Pay particular attention to their techniques, and specialities, and any historically significant battles that they fought. MEDUSA WAS A WITCH. SHE IS AN INFAMOUS CONTEMPORARY FIGURE WHOSE EXPLOITS ARE ROUNDLY APPLAUDED FOR THEIR AUDACITY, AND HATED FOR THEIR OUTCOMES. BEST KNOWN FOR ENABLING THE REBIRTH OF THE KISHIN AURA, MEDUSA SPECIALISED IN ESPIONAGE AND MELEE' COMBAT. A SNAKE WITCH, SHE USED MAGICAL 'SNAKES' TO STAB ENEMIES AND MOBILISE HERSELF, BUT AS STATED, IT WAS HER MIND WHICH WAS THE REAL WEAPON. ALTHOUGH HER OBJECTIVE WAS A Glad that was over, and feeling more than a little sneaky and smart, Ruben flipped over the page, tried to ignore the many slash-marks and waited silently for the test to finish. |
