Really? Is $50 off a flat screen TV and a X-box worth it? What is wrong with people?

NEW YORK, Nov 28 (Reuters) - A man working for discount retailer Wal-Mart (WMT.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) was killed on Friday in a stampede by frenzied shoppers who broke down doors and surged into a Long Island, New York store, a police spokesman said.

The 34-year-old man was at the entrance of the Valley Stream Wal-Mart store just after it opened at 5 a.m. and was knocked to the ground, the police report said.

The exact cause of death was still to be determined by a medical examiner.

Four shoppers, including a 28-year-old pregnant woman, were also taken to local hospitals for injuries sustained in the incident, police said.

If I remember correctly, they had to stop the BIG BLOW OUT sales in the 60's because people were getting killed or hurt all the time when the doors opened to the stores.... it is understandable.....a weird frenzy that con's wives do when they get let out of the kitchen and are given a few dollars to spend on Christmas presents.

It shows the kind of desperate greed that the consumer culture has incubated in many. We're filling our lives with stuff instead of more meaningful things. I'm aiming for an anti-consumerist Christmas this year. Donations and homemade gifts in lieu of cheap Chinese crap.
