A very Obama-ish choice. She's not progressive, but still a good choice I think. Certainly better than anything McCain would have given us. I don't agree with some of her opinions, but I don't think anyone more liberal could be confirmed.

Crap. The Repubs appoint radical activist judges and the Dems appoint moderates. Get a spine Obama. Please.

Great pic, Rue!

I was thinking the same thing....can't we at least get a hot looking liberal judge, if there any? At least it would take away the pain of losing our freedoms.

Obama did it for W. they fight the same war.

"Elena Kagan, President Barack Obama’s latest nominee to the Supreme Court, helped protect the Saudi royal family from lawsuits that sought to hold al Qaeda financiers responsible in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. The suits were filed by thousands family members and others affected by the Sept. 11 attacks. In court papers, they provided evidence that members of the Saudi royal family had channeled millions to al Qaeda prior to the bombings, often in contravention of direct guidance from the United States. But Kagan, acting as President Obama’s Solicitor General, argued that the case should not be heard even if evidence proved that the Saudis helped underwrite al Qaeda, because it would interfere with US foreign policy with the oil-rich nation. She posited “that the princes are immune from petitioners’ claims” because of “the potentially significant foreign relations consequences of subjecting another sovereign state to suit.” Raw Story - http://rawstory.com/rs/2010/0511/kagan-helped-shield-saudis-911-lawsuits/

Solicitor General Elena Kagan said in the brief to the Supreme Court that her office agreed with the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit “that the princes are immune from petitioners’ claims,” although she pointed to somewhat different legal rationales in reaching that conclusion. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/30/us/politics/30families.html?_r=1
