While Rep. Joe Wilson's decorum at a recent presidential address left something to be desired, perhaps he should be given some credit for having good instincts. The promises of President Obama are fast falling by the wayside, and the health care debate is only a small part of his dissembling.

Let us return to the much-vaunted Obama "stimulus" bill: Despite the president's promise that the spending process would be transparent and free of politics, there is plenty of evidence to the contrary. One nifty example is the "stimulus" spending by the Department of Homeland Security. Interestingly, one border checkpoint in the home state of department head Janet Napolitano is slated to receive $199 million, according to the AP, more than five times any other border station. A checkpoint in Laredo, Texas, which sees 55,000 travelers and 4,200 trucks per day, by comparison, will receive zero "stimulus" dollars (I always enclose "stimulus" in quotes for a reason, fans) despite the fact that it is rated a high priority by the government. Perhaps this is simply creative management on the part of Secretary Napolitano, but it certainly does not pass the smell test, to me.

This gets even better: A checkpoint in Whitetail, Montana, is to receive $15 million from Obama's "stimulus" plan, despite the fact that it sees an average of three (that's three!) travelers per day. What it has going for it are the state's two senators, Max Baucus and Jon Testor, who hold positions of power in the Senate and party. Plans are to build a facility "the size and cost of a Hollywood mansion," according to the Associated Press. When customs officials were pressed on the issue, they provided a single page fact sheet that did not address the question and they refused any further comment.

I thought it was our money, and our government, for that matter.

Nothing new here, you may say, just business as usual, politicians and money? Well, the president promised "no earmarks" and "transparency"; so in effect, he lied, just as everyone knows he did regarding the illegal alien insurance issue. He can no longer claim that anything is "above his pay grade."

Let me be perfectly clear: This administration and the current congressional leadership are not only untruthful, but surely must be among the most arrogant in history. They are determined to ram through their programs regardless of opposition, and regardless of what else the country might be facing ... because as elitists, they are certain they know best.

Nero fiddled while Rome burned, and President Obama is busy fiddling with global warming, trying to get the Olympics to Chicago, reforming health care, and suggesting that kids need longer school days while people like you and I are losing jobs, homes and suffering unprecedented financial hardship. Is this arrogance, or simply stupidity?
