Here's the type of change Obama brings to Washington. First, nothing but Ivy Leaguers. Second, at least it's transparent with his "good old" boys. Third, The Bennett family is very well connected in Washington. Fourth, it appears Romanoff doesn't have a chance but they will GIVE him a job. Background on Bennett: Bennet earned his bachelor's degree in history with honors from Wesleyan University, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi, and his law degree from Yale Law School, where he was the Editor-in-Chief of the Yale Law Journal. Bennet served as Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General during Bill Clinton's administration.[12] His father, Douglas J. Bennet, worked in the Clinton White House as well, as Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs. The elder Bennet ran the United States Agency for International Development under President Jimmy Carter, served as President and CEO of National Public Radio (1983-1993), Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs in the Clinton Administration (1993-1995), and President of Wesleyan University (1995-2007). His grandfather, Douglas Bennet, had been an economic adviser in Franklin D. Roosevelt’s administration. Now to Romanoff: Not long after news leaked last month that Andrew Romanoff was determined to make a Democratic primary run against Sen. Michael Bennet, Romanoff received an unexpected communication from one of the most powerful men in Washington. Jim Messina, President Barack Obama's deputy chief of staff and a storied fixer in the White House political shop, suggested a place for Romanoff might be found in the administration and offered specific suggestions, according to several sources who described the communication to The Denver Post. Romanoff turned down the overture, which included mention of a job at USAID, the foreign aid agency, sources said. Then, the day after Romanoff formally announced his Senate bid, Obama endorsed Bennet. http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_13429758?source=pop_section_news Now Breaking News about Bennett: Sen. Michael Bennet received a coveted spot on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee on Tuesday, jumping over the heads of several more senior senators to fill a slot opened by the death of Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass. "With this assignment, Colorado has a unique opportunity to help build a healthy and educated workforce that can compete in the new economy," Bennet, D-Colo., said in a release announcing the appointment. http://www.denverpost.com/commented/ci_13449590?source=commented- Background on Romanoff: Romanoff has an undergraduate degree from Yale and a Master's degree in Public Policy from John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He received a law degree at University of Denver Sturm College of Law. He was the second youngest Speaker of the House in Colorado history. |
