Oh - similar to the personal attack you made on me the other day when you said I would force my daughter to have an abortion???? Like that, RT? |

Heh. This is a fun statement, right here, that brings up some questions. First off, what do you mean by "we?" You state later in the thread that you're not a liberal, so what's with this "we won" business? Second, as liberal as Democrats and Obama supporters like to claim they are, they're more progressive than liberal. (Here's an interesting resource on these terms, though I think the author displays some bias in his/her writing: http://democraticvista.blogspot.com/2005/08/progressive-v-liberal.html) There really is a difference in ideological base, here. Lastly, what the fuck? Do you really not see the hypocrisy in calling RT out on his conservativism with exactly the same type of lame-ass defenses on your own behalf? And I mean this to all self or otherwise identified liberals here: what's the difference between elevating conservativism by bashing liberalism and elevating liberalism by bashing conservativism? But it's only hypocrisy when someone else does it! How stupid of me to have forgotten! |

This should make for an interesting thread. I can't wait to read the responses. |

It was a joke, Y, to make RT squirm in his desk chair. I ain't here to elevate either group, in case you haven't noticed. |

Very few people will fit any labels perfectly. I label myself a liberal, but in many areas I am closer to a libertarian or an old school conservative. Just like there are no "whites" or "blacks" but various shades of brown- there are no "liberals" or "conservatives". We all stand at different points on the spectrum. I don't always agree with Manna or Gringa or Archer. I'm sure Tower doesn't always agree with RT or MM. We're individuals who enjoy arguing with each other. Sometimes in the midst of these arguments we can learn things or glimpse a different POV that may help to change our own. |

Good post DB, I am glad that I assisted you in defining you political spectrum over the past two days! In the year of posting, you have NEVER ever described yourself as a libertarian. It must suck for you when RT defines you.

I have often commented on my libertarian leanings RT. In my 20's I was an ardent objectivist. I simply came to the conclusion that as lovely a fairy tale as it was, it was just that- a fairy tale. Just as I never completely rejected every aspect of the conservatism I was raised with, I still cling to a few libertarian ideals. You are helping to strip those away however. |
