Here's a good example of why we need to get rid of international law.

Yeah, right. Then give up international water and airspace. Good thinking.

well not to stray to far but in the 80's my co. had a contract fro work on ammonia tanker. The ship had no less than 2 guns per crewman on board. was not illegal...they weren't your standard civi issue weapons.

Beware the law of unintended consequences....if you get rid of international maritime law, then every ship, armed or otherwise would not be able to pass through terratorial waters without the permission of the country controlling those waters....and if they did, they could be fired upon....I see the US at war with dozens of countries trying to defend a bunch of companies ships. Might want to think about consequences before posting one-liners.

LOL - you are too funny, RT.

PErhaps if we are going to require ships to move unarmed and the priates are attacking them, then the big ports and corporations should invest in and work with security forces to blast these bastards to kingdom come.

Oh yeah i'm really afraid of 5 guys in a motor boat...Big issue here.. We spend more on defense than the rest of the world combined and somehow they got us all upset about this? Our military is not a private corporate securty service..It's only purpose should be to defend the country, not oil pipelines and sea lanes..Shipping companies need to provide thier own security..And btw-we just invaded and occupied an entire country in violation of International law? Since when did international law stop us?

International law is trashing our constitution. We need to quit signing stupid treaties and go bash these truds.

Great post, Manna, wish you were around more to set these guys straight.

My last post also made the point, or tried to, that it is not our military's job to keep private companies safe in international water. The corporations and the ports need to provide the security. I, also, read that they are too cheap to buy insurnace to cover these problems so, hey, call on our military to solve it.... I get it, now.

That's always been RT's position- it's our job to protect the corporations. They are our overlords after all.

Hey Gringa,

If our government makes/accepts treaties that put Americans at risk of the their life or liberty, then our government by the Constitution must defend them.

Liberals were crying when America didn't go save all of Americans after the Tsunaia in Indonesia several years ago. So do believe we need to be global rescuers instead of global protectors...protect Mexicans from their poor policies and crooked government with our money yet let some poor boat get hijacked because they can't defend themselves....glad I have to right to bear arms.
