I was once on a HOA in Texas....I was in my late 20's and serving on a board with 40+ year olds....we had an issue about satellite dishes. - back in the day of super sized discs.

The HOA rules were that they needed to below the fence, in the backyard, and can't be scene from the front of the house or neighorbors back yard fence line....well the HOA code nazi's served a guy with a warning about his satellite dish...his house backed up to the main road. The main road was about three feet higher than the neighborhood...so naturally you could see everything in everyones backyard because of the elevation of the road.

So we had our "hearing" and the homeowner makes his case....I vote that there was no infraction..and the four other board members tried to get me to change my vote. They told me that we should always vote together. I told them to bite me - that I was going to vote what was right for the homeowners and not what was right for their little power play. I would evidentually win...because the homeowner took the case to county civil court and won. Thus, I was right.

Sorry...but true...just need someone to promise them everything and then do the opposite. They are all Americans...so it will be classic politics.

Serving on Boards is a PITA....there is a mentality today that everyone who isn't in leadership wants to tell leadership how to lead. Yet the ones not in leadership dont' want the drama - yet they are typically the ones who are causing the drama.

Imagine the poor soul who wants power in a HOA....that's a lost soul....
BINGO - You hit it right on the head......

I have always said that Presidents of HOA's get a little power and they start acting like they are President of the United States of America....

It is one of 2 things.... they have never had any power in their lives, get a little and it goes to their heads.... or they have always had a lot of power and think they know what is best for everybody and demand everyone does it their way - either way, it is bad. In my case, it is the later.... when I owned a condo in Mooredale it was the former.... but, the problems are exactly the same.

I , HONEST TO GOD, when I was thinking of running for the board (MY GAWD - WHAT WAS I THINKING???) I told my NOW former friends at the paella dinner - I was going to run on the Obama platform of transparency and Change.... my motto - YES WE CAN!!!!

.... he is the President and his wife took it as a slam to him, that I think we need to change what he has done, that I think I can do better..... she won't speak to me now... can you fricking believe it? It was a joke.

I LOVE my President Obama...not his policies and politics.... I wouldn't mind sharing a beer with him, debating him, and even playing a little one on one.

Hey if the timing works out and he gets credit for changing American from capitalist to socialist...then I am right. If he turns around the country and we all are prosperous...he is right. The problem with his plan is that it costs almost a trillion dollars.

If I had a trillion of other people's money to spend I could change the world too....
