First-term Sen. Amy Klobuchar roasted her elders at Wednesday night's Washington Press Club dinner, "killing" in the eyes of many in the audience as she delivered a comic monologue that included teasing openly gay Rep. Barney Frank

Earning laughs at her performance at the club's annual congressional dinner, .Klobuchar earned laughter and applause when she said, "I set an all-time United States Senate record -- this is true: I raised $17,000 from ex-boyfriends."

Then she got personal.

"Speaker Pelosi, I may have the record in the Senate. But I know in the House, that record is held by Barney Frank," Klobuchar joked.

Lucky for the Minnesota Democrat, Frank is known to make himself the punch line.

At an auto industry hearing in December, for instance, Frank "went there" when Republican Rep. Shelley Moore Capito regaled the hearing room with a story about her dad's old jalopy called "the chick magnet."

"Chick magnet," Frank scoffed. "It's just not something I'd ever want to drive."

That, too, drew a big laugh.

Klobuchar also took a shot at New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, whose nomination for commerce secretary ended when he withdrew his name amid an ethics inquiry in his state.

"I really, really, really have a very simple goal," Klobuchar said. "And that is to keep it as short as Bill Richardson's tenure as commerce secretary."

WASHINGTON — .

The criticism comes ahead of a Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing Thursday for David Ogden, Obama's pick for deputy attorney general, the No. 2 position at the Justice Department.

Obama's attorney general, Eric Holder, was confirmed by the Senate on Monday and started work the next day. As he waits for confirmation of his top aides, many are questioning the nominee's backgrounds, saying they have promoted far left, pro-abortion, pro-gay policies.

"Ogden has been an activist in the support of a right to pornography, a right of abortion and the rights of homosexuals," said Patrick Trueman, a former Justice Department official during the first Bush presidency who is now in private practice.

While a private attorney, Ogden argued on behalf of Playboy and librarians fighting congressionally mandated Internet filtering software. His clients also include corporate giants such as an oil company and the pharmaceutical industry.
