I was researching something else and found this...![]() 10/11/1956 (Imagine what it is today?) Top high school scout “Papa” Manna says 15-20% of Chicago high school football players juice up In a shocking statement, Illinois' legendary high school football talent scout Richard “Papa, pay me” Manna says 15-20% of high school players juice up to bulk up. The Chicago Daily Herald carries a story on the 3 year investigation, into “Papa’s” dealing with a “Pay for Play” scam. Involving parents being strong armed into playing “Papa” so that he would present their children favorable light. (Update: The High School Yearly Alumni National Magazine stated that kids as young as 11 are juicing resulting in withered testicles, and commented “What‘s the Big Deal?, That‘s the way we do things in Chicago, just look at his son NOW! he's fine, somewhat, except for those withered testicles, poor kid.") He has worked as a recruiting analyst for Live Your High School Sports Forever and Cheating as a Life-Style Magazine. He picks the annual U.S. Navy American Squad and Spam Player of the Year. (Which, this reporter found are also under investigation.) He's discovered future NFL stars like Elmo Gee Kelly (who went to Wichita State, before starting his Pro career with the ‘44 Chicago Bears), and Paul Q. Podmajersky Jr. (who just couldn’t seems to fit into college life (Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State, Wyoming) “Papa” personally intervened with Coach Hink Anderson, and at the time as he was driving off in his NEW Chevrolet Fleet Master, Reporters questioned “What makes him so special?” Hink responded with a wave and “He’s a Good Boy!”) College recruiters rarely, if ever seek him out for his take on top players. And each week, he interviews a couple of coaches and prospects on who much money they have and will it be worth “Papa’s" time or not. The Chronicle of Lower Educationrecently named “Papa” one of the top 10 worst people in any type of sports (see Chicago Weakly Busted for Hamster fighting!) Here is “Papa’s” take on the juice and the high school football player: “I estimates15 percent to 20 percent of high school players of today use steroids to bulk up, and that half of the college and pro players use the stuff, while football looks the other way. What the big deal, we have to win!” For all his influence, “Papa” doesn't care for college or pro ball, both of which he considers businesses. “Papa” said, "It's a game of zigzagging back and forth and up and down, and don’t get tackled." “Papa” remakes are shocking. What does he mean? zigzagging? The only answer this reporter could get was: “Well, think about it, Sonny, can’t you see I’m having a BBQ, I’ll get the Brownie out and take you a picture, SSSSH!” As “Papa” hints above, he may be part of a large underground element. The above was meant as humor, and I want to acknowledge the real story at http://grg51.typepad.com/steroid_nation/2007/10/top-high-school.html and the real poster: Posted by GRG51 on 10/11/2007 The names have been changed, because it fit well. O and to protect the real people… I apologize to manna’s Dad, I’m sure he was an honorable man. |
