Colorado claims Staubitz!
Posted Image

Colorado has successfully claimed Brad Staubitz off of waivers. The gritty winger, who sometimes takes the role of a defenceman, is known throughout the league for his prowess at dropping the gloves, and his in-your-face style of play. Colorado hopes that the winger can play a key role in sparking the team through fights, hits, and other actions. Though Staubitz is not known for his point production, he is a welcome addition to the team.

Rob is Back!

Colorado has made it's first trade of the season, moving youngster Chris Stewart and defenceman Scott Hannan, along with a second round pick in 2011, for San Jose's Rob Blake, Jody Shelly, and a second round pick in 2010. Rob Blake is a renowned defenceman, capable of powerful hits, as well as offensive production. Blake will be returning to the team for the first time since 2006, while Hannan will be returning to his original team, San Jose. Jody Shelly will complete Colorado's acquisition of San Jose's gritty players.

Avalanche to Call Up Prospects for Preseason
Posted Image
Ryan Stoa playing in Minnesota.

It was announced today, by General Manager Andru, that multiple prospects would recieve playing time in the preseason. This list included Kevin Shattenkirk, Ryan Stoa, Cameron Gaunce and Colby Cohen. In addition, for the duration of the pre-seasons, young players such as Matt Duchene and Ryan O'Reilly play on the top line, rather than incumbents such as Hejduk and Stastny.

GM Andru told reporters that he has high hopes for his prospects, but confirms that - barring a phenomenal performance - they will not be brought up in the regular season, except for injuries.

Chris Clark wearing the "C" in Washington

The Washington Capitals former captain Chris Clark was traded to the Colorado Avalanche today, in exchange for prospect Mercier and a third round pick in 2010. Clark is expected to play in the bottom six, potentially higher based on his play. An experienced player, Clark helped lead the Calgary Flames to the Stanley Cup finals in 03-04, and the Washington Capitals in their playoff run last year (which ended when a vastly superior team containing the best player in the world beat them). Clark will not get a letter, though his leadership is still a major selling point.
